In the previous blog we talked about the Swan chair which is also called Egg chair, the most famous model of the whole variations, so in case you haven’t read the previous information we recommend you to invest some minutes in order to understand completely the following descriptions.

The outdoor Egg chair

This is perhaps one of the most different variations because they are normally made of rattan, which according to THE WICKED BOHEME itis a “plant from Southeast Asia that is closely related to the palm tree and grows like a tree.  It is one of the strongest woods in the world, with close to 600 types in its family.   Ranging from thin to thick, different varieties are used depending on the look of the piece.  It is a natural and sustainable product”. This kind of product considers itself as a Boheme and rustic that’s why it normally seems in outdoor furniture.

These hanging chairs commonly came with their own base where are hanged from so you can place them wherever you want.

The Ovalia Egg Chair

Today we are going to talk about one of my favorite chairs, yes, the Egg chair! I remember when I first saw this icon in the famous movie called Zoolander, I saw that the villain from the movie was sitting on one of the Swan models. The vibe and power the villain gets when he sits in the Egg chair are unmatched and I’m sure no other chair would have the same effect as this one.

So that was basically this was one of the reasons we decided to talk about the Egg chair. This iconic chair was first introduced in the 60s, where the mid-century modern style was emerging due to many young families. The Egg chair was basically created to offer a bit of privacy in public places, hence its shape. Now, let’s see the different models of this icon:

3 Key Steps To Surround Your Asher Bed With Scandinavian Style

Much is said today of the Scandinavian style. In fact, for some time, it has been among the most chosen decorating trends in the world, something that has allowed it to expand to every corner of the planet, far from the coldest countries. If you have an Asher bed and have begun to fall in love with this style and its charms, here are three key steps to successfully turning your bedroom into a distinctly Skandi environment:

  1. Set up a simple color scheme. White cannot be absent, and it’s the one that must be present in greater volume, maybe accompanied by a neutral tone. Your platform bed frame should be surrounded by a color scheme that draws in plenty of natural light and warmth.
  2. Make wood your best friend. Wood is versatile, organic, warm, and elegant. Try that the rest of the furniture pieces that will accompany your wood bed frame are made of this very pleasant material.
  3. Make it warm, cozy, and decluttered. One of the unmistakable characteristics of the Scandinavian style is that all the elements are focused on warmth. The main objective is to make the spaces as cozy as possible. In fact, it’s not uncommon for the Nordic countries to have a fireplace inside the bedroom, accompanying the modern bed frame. Some add finishes with soft skins and rugs to make it even more pleasant.

If you feel that the best way to enjoy your mid-century bed frame is with a Scandinavian decorating style, these three steps will be your main guide in that noble mission, which will bring you highly satisfactory results.

The Color of the Year 2021, According to Sherwin Williams

Recently, Pantone announced its choice for color of the year 2021, with the colors PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.

This was kind of a controversy surrounding that decision since it doesn’t look like a traditional fashion couple. Pantone was wise enough to go beyond “the color” because it will lead to endless arguments. Grey may be disappointing to some, but it means the past, resilience, and looking backward, while yellow means future, hope, looking forward.

But for the classical type, Sherwin Williams, the giant paint company, has it’s Color of the year, too. This year the prize went to Urbane Bronze (SW7048).  This warm hue draws from nature for a feeling of relaxation and serenity. It also works well with other biophilic elements including, light-filled spaces and foliage.

For Sherwin Williams, Urbane Bronze is the new neutral color. Its certainly beautiful. Will it make it?

What does set the trend for sofas nowadays?

The world of sofas is getting more interesting each year. New forms, shapes and designs rise to please all types of customers. And of course, classics are always there for timeless design enthusiasts, as we can see with the Barcelona Sofa. But what are the features we like to see in trending sofa? What are we suppose to watch?

What kind of sofa do people want now?

Nowadays the preference of the public for sofas keeps the prior features of 2019 and 2020. Due to the need for smaller, functional homes, demand is leaning to smaller sizes and models like loveseats. Rounded surfaces and materials like microfiber, canvas, and velvet. But let’s take a closer look:

Shapes

Like in prior years, rounded sofas are making it big. Not only with rounded ends, but with rounded frames and designs. This kind of sofas tends to be more expensive, due to the manufacturing costs required to produce different frames, beyond the classic forms. Definitely, rounded sofas and loveseats are great to create a refreshing impression in your room, and to show a different focal point, through color and shape, but it’s good to keep in mind that this kind of shapes are very fancy, but they fade quickly.

Materials

Several years ago, there wasn’t a current offer of materials in the market. Now, with microfiber, canvas, cotton, velvet, and leather, of course, the market is really segmented. Microfiber, velvet, and pecan are among the most popular choices in materials. Many of these materials provide warmth and comfort, hence, they are more requested in cool, cold weather. Classic options, like leather, are still trending and are welcomed in warmer temperatures.

Color

Blue, purple, orange, are some of the notes that bold consumers are taking home to make joyful, creative places to share with friends. Right now, Pantone declared grey and illuminating yellow like the colors of the year 2021. Grey has always been a safe bet in sofas. Will we see more yellow colors?

Sizes

Due to the progressive trend of buying smaller homes for individuals or small families, is natural to observe a demand for smaller sofas, or for loveseats instead of sofas. Certainly, in a reduced space, is better to observe the golden rule of enough space for walk around the furniture with ease (As many designers set between 3.5′ and 10′). So, the trend is to observe loveseats or sofas of medium size, like the Barcelona Sofa or the Barcelona Loveseat.

Style

Mid Century Modern continues to be the favorite style when it comes to furniture, especially with sofas and chairs. Its clean cut designs and elegant lines combined with a wood frame, are still very popular, only with variations of color and experimental materials.  Recently the apparition of GrandMillenial Style is meant to bring some refreshing news. Mid Century Modern Chairs: The persistence of classics

Time is the final test. Whether in arts, design or any field of human endeavors, a classic is something that every generation finds worthy and somehow new.

Is this what happens with Mid Century Modern furniture. MCM, as it has been called too, had significant momentum in the 1960s, with a huge influence on all the spectra of arts and architecture of that time. After a relative decay in the 1970s, design students and art critics in the late 80s took back the interest in MCM as a special Vintage period, and by the 1990’s Mid Century Modern was an established trend that broke the walls of nostalgia, becoming a major fashion force in furniture all over the world.

The Barcelona Chair and the Eames Office Chair are perfect examples of this renovation.  The Barcelona Chair was designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1929 for the International Exposition of Barcelona. The characteristic “X” shape frame and the sober but comfortable design made it a hallmark of furniture. Originally elaborated for the Kings of Spain, Van der Rohe stated several times that he searched for inspiration in the Roman Empire tents. The Barcelona Chair complements and grows with the Barcelona Loveseat (Two seats) and the Barcelona Sofa. These chairs became so popular that they even appeared in several blockbuster movies (American Psycho and Casino Royale, just to name a couple).

In Barcelona Designs you can give yourself the opportunity to enjoy many of these classic and timeless pieces of furniture, like the Barcelona Collection, for a fraction of the price of one original one.

Modernism, Mid Century, or Contemporary? Very alike, but not the same

Some people, when refer to a particular piece of design, tend to use the terms “Modern”, “Mid Century Modern” and “Contemporary” indistinctly. This is not the best practice, since there are different movements that shared some principles, there still had differences you might not know.

Modernism: The Beginnings.

By “Modern” we refer to pieces of furniture developed in the first half of XX Century by the founders of Modernism, a revolutionary movement in Design, Architecture, and Arts. Le Corbusier, Charles and Ray Eames, The Bauhaus movement, and even the first period of L. Mies van der Rohe can be labeled as Modernism. In this period were established the principles of all renovation movements that came later in the s XX. Remarkable products of this period: the LC5 Sofa Bed (Le Corbusier, the Eames Office Chair (Charles and Ray Eames). Another remarkable set of pieces of the period is the Barcelona Collection.

Mid Century Modern: The Golden Age of Design

Mid Century Modern is the moment in the XXth century when several great designers collide in the creation of a solid creative collective. The principles of Modernism of 30 and 40 years ago were taken and updated with the new developments and findings of engineering, architecture and scientific progress. In furniture we can mention remarkable products of this period, such as the Noguchi Table (Isamu Noguchi), the Tulip Table (Eero Sarinen), or the  Freedom Chair (Neils Diffrient)

Contemporary Design

More than a homogenous category, Contemporary encloses the works of any remarkable live creator, so there aren’t any fixed set of rules or principles. Some names of living and remarkable designers are Stefan Diez or Sato Oki.

In Barcelona Design you can give yourself the opportunity to enjoy many of these classic and timeless pieces of furniture, like the Barcelona Collection, for a fraction of the price of one original one.

In general, the MCM has been the precursor of several ideas regarding the decorating of modern spaces.
