The Egg Chair: Description & Movies Where You Can Appreciate Its Elegance (I/II)

Brief description of the Egg Chair

The Egg Chair is perhaps the most exponential chair worldwide within the mid-century style, this chair was designed by the incredible architect Jacobsen in 1958 for the inauguration of the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, this was the first skyscraper in Denmark.

Jacobsen was involved not only in the interior details of the building but also of its furniture, in the project the exterior and interior areas were included, so the surroundings of the room made the Egg Chair stand out above the other decorative elements. The project was undoubtedly a representation of how design and architecture can converge at the same point.

The uniqueness of the Egg chair can be seen in its iconic structure where Jacobsen used meticulous sculptural tectonics to mold it. Clearly modernist in scope, the chair’s curves offer a striking contrast to the building’s crisp geometric design – a block of flat surfaces made of glass and concrete.
