The Barcelona Chair and Mid Century Modern: The influence behind the new Ford Mustang
The legacy of men like Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Eero Saarinen is far beyond architecture, and it spreads in many fields of human knowledge. Arts and Design are of course its main area of influence, even in the automobile market. That’s what Josh Greiner, Interior Designer of the Mustang Mach-E, states in a recent interview.
“A lot of us find inspiration with a classic design. We’re trying to do more timeless design and less trend design,” Greiner said. “Trendy design is exciting for the moment but doesn’t age very well.”.
The fascination of Josh Greiner with Mid Century Modern, and the work of genius like L. Mies van der Rohe, doesn’t have to do only with furniture.
Even its architectural masterpieces are part of the influence in the design of the Mustang Mach. Lafayette Park, one of the greatest works of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, has marveled at Greiner since he met it. He says that it looks like a big beautiful glass building, but in spite of having 50 years, it appears to be brand new, keeping its simplicity, beauty, and clean structure.
The main objective of Greiner while designed the Mustang Mach-E was to keep it as aerial he could. “I tried to incorporate as many floating elements in the interior as possible, to keep it feeling light and airy.”
