Design notes from the Barcelona Chair: What is a Perfect Design?
There are many opinions about what is the perfect design. And they’re a lot of elements mentioned to be part of perfect design. Beauty, functionality, sustainability are part of a successful design that lasts forever.  
But in recent years, the idea of perfect design is been heavily influenced, in the mass media, by technological gadgets: Smartphones, laptops, smartwatches, and so on. They tend to be seen as the sum of a great effort in terms of design: beauty and fascinating objects that come for our attention in an almost hypnotic way. But here are some voices against this trend, like for example the Wall Street Journal with its Unimprovable Award.  According to the principles and values behind this award, a really perfect design must last forever, just the way it is. This doesn’t apply to technological gadgets, that are always forced to be updated, upgraded, and always end in the trash can,  or in the drawer of useless devices after a few years.
A really perfect design over last the original owner, according to the Unimprovable Award.  That’s why the Barcelona Chair received the 2018 edition.

And what is a fine example of a perfect design? Well, yeah, It’s the Barcelona Chair. with a design that has barely a few noticeable changes in more than 90 years. Quite a lapse of time to verify the quality of good design, right?
