Beyond the Barcelona Chair: The MR Chair

Of course, the Barcelona Chair, and the Barcelona Collection had without a doubt a vast influence on the Interior Design World, but what about other works Did L. Mies van der Rohe, and its great collaborator, Lilly Roche? Are there other interesting, marvelous designs? The framework for most of the furniture work of van der Rohe covers the last years of the decade of the 20s. Neither was made before or after. But the legacy from that time is still highly popular. Let’s take a look at the other two creations from that period: The Brno Chair and the MR Chair.

The Brno Chair and the MR Chair were designed from 1927 to 1929, by L. Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Roche, with the collaboration of Sergius Ruegenberg.

The MR Chair (also known as the Weissenhoff Chair), released in 1927 for the Weissenhoff International Exposition, and it has a original  curved – convex frame, made of steel. Its seat and back is made originally with wicker upholstery, which treatment was one of the special skills acquired by Lilly Roche. It’s a revolutionary concept of simplicity and beauty. Originally without arms, it has a version with arms support, too.
