Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe was a German-American architect who began his architectural career as an apprentice at the studio of Peter Behrens from 1908 to 1912, where he was exposed to the contemporary design principles and liberal German culture. He worked beside Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius.

Mies started experimenting with his work after World War I where he was just designing neoclassical houses. 

After the war, progressives thought to completely change the architectural design process due to the changes in needs that neighboring countries were going through, in which way? They started to mainly considerer problem-solving and include new structures and materials; such as glass, steel, and plate wood.
